about
I started taking photographs when I was in high school starting out as more of a fine art photographer. Once I started collage I started to learn more about lighting and content and my style seemed to change drastically. With my photographs I have started to create my own little stories and scenario with in the frame and placing a subject in that subject. I like to refer to myself as a stage photographer, creating elaborate bizarre scenes and placing characters in that scene to tell a story. I want to tell a story about the character in my image.
Photography is an escape for me to get away from the ordinary. The everyday life can not even come close to what we can imagine. I can run off to a world of my own creation where I can control everything with my photography. A place where I can invent what is in my mind and in my mind only is what photography is to me. The photographs that I construct are the evidence of my dreams and how far my imagination can go. With these photographs the viewer can determine how my mind works and what I can fabricate when I bring my self into an idea.
Sometimes our lives feel like they are spinning out of control. With photography I can grab onto one instance that is mine and mine alone. With all of the random things that pass by in my mind each second I mostly feel lost. With my photos I can hold on to just one of those things that pass by me so fast that I feel like I can’t catch my breath. It helps me get a grip on the world around me. My work gives me a way to direct what goes on in my mind. The finished product is the spectator’s own portal into my dream reality.
Not only is photography my idea of control but it is also my journey to finding myself. With each click of the button I find that some part of me is brought into the image. Through taking these photographs of these different people is what helps me find my self. I feel that each person that I meet has some impact on my life. If we didn’t meet a variety of people then who would we be? Each person we meet brings out something different about ourselves and helps us take one step further to figuring out who we are in this huge thing called life. Photography brings me closer to finding those people who help bring me closer to figuring out who I am.
My photographs are very elaborate, colorful and interesting images. They possess lots of color and details to enhance the subject. This portfolio shows you all of that and with these images you can see my passion for my art and why I want to continue on this fun and intriguing path.
The idea of creating a whole world for a character is what makes me tick. Creating whole worlds builds a story for that one in particular character. This idea of a story being told is what I want to create in my photographs. This huge idea of setting up a stage and acting out its story really intrigues me.
With the click of a button I have the opportunity to have the observer see things through my perspective as well as their own. When the viewer looks into my images they can see my vision and my passion for the strange world we live in. When we look at something we often take a quick glance at what is there and we move on. What if we took the time to really look beyond the surface? I want the viewer to look beyond that first layer and go deeper which will lead them to their own perspective on the idea behind the characters story.
I heard somewhere that once a photograph is taken it is no longer in the hands of the one who took it, but it is now in the hands of the viewer and how they perceive the world that you as the photographer created. This is how I want my photography to be viewed. The feeling that I get when I look at my photographs is not what counts. But how you feel when you look at what I have captured through my camera and my ideas is what counts.
My work focuses on the illustration market in which I use my imagination and use of color to communicate my visions to the audience. My images portray unusual ideas and extravagant concepts in everyday life. It is not my ideas that stand out from other photographers but it’s the way that I execute the idea. The ideas that I fashion into a scene place the thought into a different context and makes people think a little more about the thought process behind the image its self. I do not want to tell the viewer what the image is about. I want them to relate it to their own life to find the meaning and what the story means to them and not just to me. Once I take that photograph the meaning is no longer in my hands, but in the hands of the viewer.
